G'day
Just to let you know a few things
1 - the gifted policy work is still going on, however, it should be soon
coming to an end and to be presented to the minister Brendan Nelson. There
are now a few more Gifted People, who know far more that I are also
involved in giving information to that committee, so we hope to raise
issues again soon.
2. I have been in discussions with an professional body of counsellors, who
are interested in the areas of gifted teens and gifted adults. My fiancee
and I are looking at doing some of the training and becoming accredited,
however this will take several years to do. Because of the need for
resources in the community, there is going to be an in-service professional
development workshop to already trained counsellors, who i hope will be on
a list some where, as well as available as any other type of counsellors.
The current need areas I have discussed are;
Gifted suicide - gifted depression - gifted relationships breakdown -
gifted vocational guidance - gifted learning disabilities
There has also been a suggestion to also focus on support for families who
have both gifted and mentally disabled members of the same family.
These counsellors would not be the same type as Lesley Sword, or Helen
Dudeney - who are the specialists and experts in the field. The
counsellors who would do the in-service would deal with other aspects of
counselling, but would be aware of the difficulties / specialities of the
Gifted Community.
Anyway I am after any topics or feedback that can help in this path.
Regards
Tony
