Subject: [enews] A Special Announcement From The Davidson Institute

Supporting Our Nation's Brightest Young Minds.
A Nation Deceived is having a positive impact for gifted learners.
The results are in from the one-year follow-up survey on A Nation Deceived:
How Schools Hold Back America's Brightest Students, by Nicholas Colangelo,
Susan G. Assouline, Miraca U. M. Gross. At the recent National Association
for Gifted Children convention in Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Colangelo
reported the findings of the online survey completed by over 2,500
respondents. Information on the survey and a comprehensive summary of the
data is currently available at http://nationdeceived.org/followup.html.
We congratulate the researchers involved with the development of and
follow-up to A Nation Deceived, as well as all the individuals who have
shared the information with others. We anticipate an increasingly broad and
positive impact as this national report on acceleration continues to be
distributed, discussed and implemented in America's academic settings.
Media Update - The New York Times Magazine (this Sunday, Nov. 20)
We would like to notify you about an article in this Sunday's New York Times
Magazine (Nov. 20) which will be posted at
http://www.nytimes.com/pages/magazine/.
As you will see, the cover story is about gifted students, entitled The
Prodigy Puzzle, and the photos the editors chose to accompany the article
are disturbing to say the least. In addition, the editors' choice of the
cover page title, "Can Genius Really Be Cultivated? The rise of the
gifted-child industry" is equally as troubling.
We are sending a letter to the editor, and if you feel so inclined, we
encourage you to do so. Send an email to: magazine at nytimes.com - please
include your name, address and daytime telephone number.
