[Oz-gifted] Assisitive technology fo uni

Hi Alison,

Perhaps if you could explain here what sort of problem she has with note
taking then people may be able to give specific advice. If she has a
handwriting problem, writing on a PC tablet is no solution, for example.
Most undergrad lecturers post lecture notes on the subject website, and all
the student needs to do is to add comments during the lecture to the notes
they have printed out.

If this isn't the case and she has a documented handwriting disability
perhaps she could arrange to get a copy of the lecturers own notes. Failing
this, most lecturers are happy for students to tape lectures, at my
university undergrad lectures in many degrees are videotaped and are
available for students to view in the library AV lab.We actually used to be
able to borrow them and view them at home until some smart person decided to
make some $s and the taped lectures began appearing in online courses!

Talk to the disability counsellor at her home campus and get information
about what support is available. Haven't you already gone through all of
this with daughter no 1? Maybe use the same strategies with this daughter.

Leonie
