Hi Alison,
B's handwriting was awful until grade 8 when it miraculously improved!
It seemed that to her it was unimportant at the time, but all of a
sudden she wanted her notebooks to look neat and her hand writing
improved. Now it is known that she did have issues, we went to an OT
earlier on with her and really was only given a pencil grip and told to
let her keep practising.
The school has now said we can have a laptop for her but she said she
wouldn't use it because it would make her look different to the others.
She would like it, but not to use in class. Is this an option for this
child?
I suppose the thing to consider is it imperative for the child to have
good writing? Or it there ways around it like getting a laptop? I know
it is probably so that the teacher can read his writing.
Have you asked him, why he thinks his writing is a problem? He may be
able to tell you ie/ my hand hurts when I have to write a lot, I can see
the paper it is blurry, I just don't like writing.
The calligraphy idea is a good one, this also helped with B.
Cheers
Michelle G
