[Oz-gifted] Encouraging active participation

I got over the compulsory reading at night by making my kids 
write  whatever in book they were currently reading and then signing 
it.  Occasionally I checked them, but not formally.  I mostly trusted 
them to have actually read the book and sometimes they had to choose 
which book to write in.

Thank goodness we're past that.
