Hi Fin,
In the past the people (psychologists) that have tested her on IQ and
achievement tests, said that it was due to her ld's causing havoc with
the IQ tests, but no "real" explanation.

The IQ tests included the WISCIII and Woodcock Johnston tests of
cognitive abilities - third edition(WJIII COG) the achievement tests
used on the two different occasions where the Wide Range Achievement
Test second edition (WRAT-2) and Wechsler Individual Achievement Test
2nd ed (WIAT-II). Both achievement tests came out as around the same
scores, although they were 3 years apart.

Linda Silverman in the past has said "it is completely impossible for a
child with an IQ score of 112 to obtain in the same time period, an
achievement test score of 141..... and also test in the gifted range on
the Ravens at the same time."

She said the difference was probably to do with the timing of the tests.

This time round the testing is being done by the gifted coordinator (one
of the ladies you met with me the other night) All she knows is that
Brooke is a quandary and that scores are never what they seem with her.
She has no explanation.

The tests that were used was the ACER Middle Years Ability Test (MYAT)
this is a revised version of the ACER Intermediate Tests. Usually the
test is administered to a group in a 45 minute time slot, Brooke sat the
test individually with no time limits. She was able to ask questions as
needed, and did so on two occasions.

The other test was the KTEA-2 Koffman Test of Educational Achievement.

No she is not being asked to gauge her attitude to anything different,
the aptitude tests were on literacy numeracy and non verbal reasoning.
The KTEA-2 was on reading, comprehension, spelling, maths and written
expression.

By the way Fin, I talked to the Academies about the testing at the
academies, and explained this little quirk with B. They said they will
make a note of it, and if she doesn't do well on the testing, that they
will still look at other "modes" of entry to be included. They said
their job is not about keeping kids out of the academies, but trying to
make sure it is the right option for them. Thought you might like to
know about that little bit of info.

Cheers

Michelle G
