[Oz-gifted] UPDATE re: Sounds promising...

You might remember that DS1's classroom teacher was trying to
organise a meeting between herself, the head of K and the head of
Stage 1 (1st and 2nd grade) regarding meeting DS1's needs next year.
She also wanted the principal present, but the meeting has proved
hard to organise. Anyway, the principal has now asked for DS1 to
have an assessment, which will be conducted by the school counsellor.
Given that I am in the NSW public system, does anyone know of what
this will consist, eg is there a standard suite of tests that they
use?
Any comments from those who have been down this road?
They seems to have been considering grade acceleration but to be
hesitant -- and TBH I'm hesitant about that too, given that DS1 is
only in K. Subject acceleration in literacy and maths is looking
very likely, however, and that is more what I was hoping for.
The teacher tells me that DS1 works very well on his own, and that
self-paced learning packages would be great for him, but she doesn't
have the internet access in her (portable) classroom to provide them.
Most of the class work is in groups, and when he's in a group, DS1
talks and talks instead of doing his work!
