The simple answer is that you look over the sidelined e-mails and
rescue those where you know the sender, or think there may be some
value. This is another reason for using meaningful subject lines -- I
know that the current discussion may be of interest, but usually
"unsubscribe"  would have me moving on.

The other trick is to wait a day or so before deleting.
