  Maureen,  do you have a copy of Effective Reading in the Content Areas (A Morris & N Stewart-Dore, 1984)?  I know it's old, but I still think it has the most effective strategies to use in helping students become real readers!

  This site also has great strategies (many 'oldies but goodies'!)
