any or all of these things:
1. check out your firewall software settings (to get past the DIY 
certificate
2. add the certificate to your browser's security options
3. investigate the need for a proxy server to facilitate access
4. talk to the certificate issuing authority about the requirements
5. swear at the stupidity and cheapness of the implementers and their 
lack of testing so that busy teachers dont have to stuff around with 
things like this ;)
