Hi Chris
What learning framework do you use? What guidance do you give students? Is
this a showcase or do students reflect on their learning? Is this part of an
inquiry cycle where students determine what they are going to learn, how
they are going to learn it and then present evidence of their learning...
Kind regards
Rohan Dean (HOD eLearning)

1. We run Mahara. It's fairly new, so we are still rolling it out to
students and getting them up to speed with how to use it, but it looks
really good. It itegrates directly into Moodle, which is perfect for us.
2. Mahara allows students to create "views" of various pieces of work, which
they then expose to whatever audience they wish. This includes not just
teachers, other students and friends, but also the open web if they wish
(therefore potential employers, further education, etc). They can choose
what they share, and set timeframes around how long they share it. Our
intention is to leave their "portal" open after they leave our school.
3. No. Mahara treats the ePortfolio as a student-owned space. It would be
up to the student to include these other things.
4. No, we don't do that. I can't see why you'd want to actually replace an
earlier piece of work. I would have thought that the benefit of an
ePortfolio was to see improvement over time, so deleting or overwriting old
work would be counterintuitive.

Dear all
I am aware of Helen Barrett's material on eportfolios but was wondering what
technologies / ways are schools using for student portfolios.
Also QUT apparently have a great one - does anyone know it and can it be
adapted to Secondary school (who are the suppliers)?
A few questions surrounding eportfolios
1. What system/ software do you use.?
2.Can the information be exported out of the system so that the students can
"take" the information with them - for scholarships, grants, vocational
entrance evidence
3. Do teachers also contribute ot the folios - ie when a student gets an
award, grades etc
4. Lane Clark suggested the idea of versioning examplars ie - if a student
writes a brilliant piece in year 8 he or she may submit it to their
portfolio labelling it narrative2.0 (replacing the one they put up in year 7
perhaps) . version narrative 3.0 may not happen until year 10 or 11..etc
Does anyone else follow this model?
thanks in anticipation
cheers
Thea
